Just when you think you get one area figured out, another issue pops up and needs attention. We touched on a few common struggles in our previous article, but how do you start to address them? Ignoring the issues or telling yourself that \u201cthings will get better with time\u201d can ultimately lead to higher employee turnover, especially in today\u2019s tight labor market. A proactive approach and implementing improvements not only keep your organization moving forward, but also shows your remote team members that you\u2019re engaged in their well being.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s start with a few of the basics. We\u2019ve outlined a few \u201cdos and don\u2019ts\u201d below. Maybe you\u2019re already using some of them or perhaps they\u2019re a good reminder of where you need to improve:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>DO<\/strong> set immediate and clear expectations. And make sure everyone knows what they are!<\/li>\n<li><strong>DO<\/strong> schedule regular team meetings and make them a priority (no regular cancellations, please).<\/li>\n<li><strong>DO<\/strong> engage directly with employees as often as possible.<\/li>\n<li><strong>DON\u2019T<\/strong> just have a communication strategy in place. Document it and share it. Everyone needs to be on the same page.<\/li>\n<li><strong>DON\u2019T<\/strong> just encourage feedback, make it possible. And listen to it!<\/li>\n<li><strong>DON\u2019T<\/strong> micromanage and make employees feel like they\u2019re not trusted.<\/li>\n<li><strong>DO<\/strong> have an open-door policy and set aside time for one-on-one conversations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s easy to say \u201ccommunicate more with your employees\u201d or \u201cset clear expectations\u201d, but how do you get started when you\u2019re already feeling overwhelmed?
